Mrs. Christine Rodrigues

Partner at Bowmans

Christine Rodrigues is a Partner at Bowmans and a recognised thought leader in insurance regulation in South Africa and across the African continent. Ranked Band 2 by Chambers & Partners, she advises insurers, reinsurers and industry stakeholders on complex regulatory, policy and governance matters across both the life and non-life insurance sectors. She is particularly respected for her insight into regulatory strategy and regulatory engagement.

Christine brings a distinctly Pan‑African perspective to her practice. She works closely with African insurance market participants to support regulatory alignment, market development and sustainable growth, advising on market entry, supervisory engagement and evolving regulatory frameworks. Her work is focused on helping insurance markets balance innovation, consumer protection and financial stability across diverse jurisdictions.

Before entering private practice, Christine worked within one of South Africa’s largest insurance groups and spent time supporting its Mozambican operations. This experience gives her a practical, commercial understanding of the operational realities and challenges facing insurers operating across borders in Africa.

Christine holds BCom and BCom (Hons) degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand and an LLB from the University of South Africa (UNISA). At the AIO Conference, she looks forward to engaging on regulatory reform, innovation and the future role of insurance in Africa’s economic development.
