Mr. Pranav Prashad

Thematic lead at the ILO's Impact Insurance Facility

An experienced development sector professional having expertise in insurance working towards financial inclusion and risk management of vulnerable sectors of society.

With a business administration background and extensive private sector experience, Pranav is currently based at the ILO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and is the thematic lead at the ILO's Impact Insurance Facility (earlier Microinsurance Innovation Facility) for initiatives related to climate change, Disaster risk and climate risk and agriculture insurance, distribution and building scale and efficiency through use of technology globally which includes projects in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

A business manager with more than three decades of experience, he has initiated and taken to scale agriculture (including weather index based products) and health insurance projects amongst low income households in India, utilizing a diverse set of distribution channels (such as community based organizations, provider networks, cooperative banks, rural retailers farm input providers and rural village based e kiosks) and enabling the projects with technology.

At the Facility, Pranav has aided in successful introduction of weather index insurance products in Sri Lanka and index related product for livestock in Kenya amongst other projects.

He is also the lead author of the recently published paper on the use of mobile phones in insurance. Pranav holds an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies and a bachelor's honours degree in Economics, both from Delhi University, India.
